Unless you live on your island, with ample resources and no need for the outside world then this does not apply to you. Otherwise keep reading...Oil has gone up to $103.00 a barrel.
They call it 'Stagflation', I call it the beginning of Armageddon. I look forward to 'our' great depression, I look forward to this time when everything comes into perspective. When all this talk about 'tribe' and 'family' really starts beginning to mean something.
Why do I bring up the price of oil? why do I mention 'tribalism'? The price of wheat has doubled...looks like Atkins might work out by default.
Maybe I read the news too much, maybe I worry too much, maybe I care too much. Maybe I'm just crazy, but before it gets any better, it's gonna get worse. And sometimes, sometimes it's gotta be that way. This game we play on a daily, this game we call 'life' is one big cosmic dice throw. If one were so inclined to believe that the universe itself were a thing onto itself, a thing with intelligence, then such a thing is "cool , vast, and unsympathetic." for humanity in comparison to the larger picture is but a blip on the radar screen. Roaches will out live us as a species.
So why are we so fucking special? is it the gift of narcissism? for we all are narcissistic in one way or another...we only put our best pictures up do we not? I do. Why would I put a picture up of myself taking a shit? that's not sexy. catch my drift.
Sexiness is over fucking rated.
Tough times are coming, but it is tough people who endure.
There's all this talk about 2012...to hell with prophecy, I will concern myself with this world that we live in, that we have created. this is our charge and our doing. The idea that somehow, someway it will change for whatever reason outside of any action besides our own is bullshit. You don't think Aztec royalty weren't as corrupt as anyone else in power, you think because they were indigenous beings with a naturalistic philosophy that was in tune with the earth that it exempts them from corruption??? they were human too...it's all systems of control. And Human sacrifice is a damn good way to keep folks in line.
Tell you what...come 2012 and my back starts burning, then I'll say I was wrong, but until then...it's up to us.
It's like we are standing there seeing the punch coming with our hands tied behind our backs.
Two of my favorite bands I will quote: Marilyn Manson: "Without the threat of death There's no reason to live at all"
Queens of The Stone Age: "But I want something good to die for, To make it beautiful to live."
This is our generations impasse, we are it folks, this is our charge. It is our time. it is the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Re: Saint Durden says...
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 12:20 PMI don't doubt that the world, as WE know it, will change drastically in our lives. Nor have I ever doubted that WE, as a collective, are capable of changing the world. For better or worse, WE control our own destiny.
I am equally alarmed by the changes I've observed and by what is to come, should we stay on this course. On a global scale, I feel we are reaching a critical point in our history: NOW is the time to take action to protect our environment, to uphold civil rights, to minimize corruption and suffering ...
I'll be honest: I worry alot these days. Yet, I have found that the worrying is pointless unless it spurs me on to action. And, to be honest, I don't feel as though worrying is the best motivation for action. At least, not for me. So, what I've begun to do is to shift focus away from worrying and towards inspiration. The process sort of goes like this:
* I learn or become aware of some issue that disturbs me.
* I start to worry. I start to feel helpless ...
* I shift focus towards others who are doing something to change this thing that worries me.
* I find myself inspired to learn about and think on how I can change this thing that worries me.
* I become motivated to do something by the actions of others ...
* I take action towards changing this thing that disturbs me.
As an individual, I am trying to effect positive changes through small, daily actions that I hope will minimize my physical impact on the world and maximize my good intentions and efforts. I can't work on everything, but I can do SOMETHING. Every day. And I find solace in doing good things, too. Sitting around, bemoaning the state of our world, without more, seems a bit hypocritical and just isn't working for me anymore. For me, it does nothing but perpetuate a state of paralysis and seems to be a misuse of my time and energy.
So, my beloved St. Durden: I appreciate that you care. I know you're doing good things in your life. Sending the warning call out to the community and informing and educating us is a HUGE step in the right direction. Like you, I believe we can do more. Let's keep pushing forward, beyond the talk and onto inspiration and action. My everlastin', everlovin' question to you and to the COMMUNITY at large is this:
What do you suggest WE do to turn the tide of events and effect positive change? -

Tue, March 4, 2008 - 5:34 PMMy beloved Naz,
There are no quick solutions to the this quandary we find ourselves in. There are extreme measures and apathetic ones as well, but from what I can see the middle path seems to work the best in all things human. Yes, we find ourselves at a great crossroad of humanity, only to be judged by future generations by the question of, "what did you do?"
Doomsday scenarios and preparations will save a few, I know in my past blogs I have written of things in terms of 'Gold and Guns'...but what of those who lack the resource, what of those who have no place to go? those who become cannon fodder.
Or we can look at it from an economical standpoint, which unfortunately is the yard stick of our lives. The world at large, can it afford what we think is to come??? Once again, it's like a 'self' fulfilling prophecy that we are fucking our selves into believing into happening. Will big business allow the coming crash? is there not a way to capitalize on the ills of the world for the good of the world. Do you get my drift?
Political involvement, more main-stream involvement. (for as much we think we are 'counter-culture' we are still part of the larger whole...all affects all.) Wiser investments with the excess funding found within the scene instead of 'blowing it' within the fucking party.
With all the energy and resources that is pulled together from this vast sea of humanity to have a week long experience of music, drugs, and debauchery, one could only imagine what such a motivating force if shifted in the right direction can achieve.
Pick a side, this country is two party: plain and fucking simple...the third party is not viable yet! pick a side and work it! talk to your family, to others outside the community...here we are(on tribe) mutually masturbating the other...for we all see yet, and know it. But bills still have to be paid.
I invite ANYONE with logically grounded solutions to come forward and suggest anything, we all have to do our part.
More to come.
